Pastor
Pastor Jean Dougherty received her Master of Divinity from United Lutheran Seminary with an award of Excellence in Lutheran History and Theology. She recently served as Vicar to St. Peter’s and Gloria Dei in Huntington Station and King of Kings in Melville, NY. Pastor Jean also served as a seminary fieldworker for Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Fort Salonga under the Reverend Robert Schoepflin and has served as Deacon to both St. Andrew’s in Smithtown and Abiding Presence in Fort Salonga.
She did her undergraduate studies in education at Stony Brook University and extensive graduate-level coursework in counseling at Long Island University. Pastor Jean has been a NYS certified secondary education teacher, a private school teacher in Hauppauge, and the Parish Administrator at St. Andrew’s, Smithtown. She founded a girl’s camp program, directed Vacation Bible Camp, has been a director of Children’s Ministry, and the Chair of the Peconic Conference of Women. Pastor Jean also worked with the Metro NY Synod WELCA and the Domestic Violence Awareness Task Force at the synodical level.
In the community, she has volunteered for the Suffolk County suicide hotline and the Suffolk County Homelessness Response Team, and is currently a steering member of the AMOS project and Abraham’s Table of Long Island. Pastor Jean is the mother of three grown children and lives in Smithtown with her husband Mike, her daughter Chelsea and her golden retriever Oakley. When not busy with church, she enjoys walking at Sunken Meadow, reading, and weaving.
