Staff

Pastor Susan Shelhart was called to Saint Andrew’s in July 2019. She received her Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, and her undergraduate degree is from the University of Connecticut, in French education. Pastor Shelhart grew up in the Midwest and in Connecticut, and was a longtime resident of New York City before coming to Smithtown.

Linda Pagano is our parish administrator. She is available to answer any questions about the church and our many ministries. Call her at the church office (631-265-2288) Monday through Friday, 9:00am - 1:00pm.

Tom Pernice has been the Congregational President since mid-March 2020. You are welcome to speak with him about membership, voter’s assembly, or any church governing concerns.

Steve and Jill O’Hagan are our Confirmation Leaders. The Confirmation program welcomes children 6th through 8th grade. Tabitha Johnson and Jessica Bosak are the Youth Leaders. Our Youth Program provides opportunities for fun and fellowship for youth, 6th grade through high school.

Mary Fjellstad is our Sunday School Director and she welcomes the opportunity to speak with you about your children and our dynamic Christian education program for ages 3 years through 5th grade.

Rick Madarasz is our Treasurer. He is available to answer questions regarding statements or the many ways you may donate to St. Andrew’s.

Malissa Nelson is both the Co-Director and Co-Lead teacher of the 4 year old class. She comes from an early childhood background with her Masters in Special Education. Malissa has been teaching at St. Andrew’s for 7 years and has experience teaching in the 2, 3 and 4 year old programs. She is eager to professionally grow with the school and continue to work with young children to meet their social, emotional and educational needs. Malissa, her husband and two children have called Smithtown home for 7 years.

Amanda Kearney is St. Andrew's Cooperative Nursery School's Co-Director and Co-Lead Teacher in the 4-year old program. Amanda joined the St. Andrew's family as a parent when one of her sons was in the 3-year old program. When her son moved into the preK program at St. Andrew's, Amanda became the lead 3-year old teacher.
With over 15 years of teaching experience and a Masters in Childhood Education, Amanda was excited to work with younger children in preschool. With a background in science, Amanda enjoys bringing in hands-on STEAM lessons to enhance the children's learning. Amanda, her husband and their 3 children have called Smithtown home since 2016.
In 2021, Amanda Kearney and Malissa Nelson became Co-Directors and Co-Teachers in the 4-year old program. With over 30 years of combined education experience they are developing a child-centered program to enrich students and prepare them for kindergarten.
